What is the Christmas Challenge?

The Christmas Challenge, founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir Alec Reed CBE, is the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign. For seven days, it offers supporters of participating charities the opportunity to have their donation doubled on theBigGive.org.uk. Since the Big Give launched the campaign in 2008, the Christmas Challenge has raised over £90 million for thousands of charity projects.

The Christmas Challenge takes place from 12pm (midday) Tues 27th November – 12pm Tues 4th December when your donation to participating charities can be doubled.

As a charity, Keep Britain Tidy aims to:

Educate public concerning the preservation, protection and enhancement of the environment, the use of sustainable waste management practices and the impact of individuals’ own actions on environment.

To protect preserve and enhance the environments of town and country in the United Kingdom for the general benefit of the nation at large.

Preserve/protect physical/natural environment for public benefit through the promotion of waste reduction, re-use, reclamation and recycling of waste materials and the benefits of sustainable living.

The project they're running for the Big Give Christmas Challenge is to prevent small animal deaths. We have a lot of focus on how plastics are affecting our oceans, but the same is true for our wildlife on land. Our beloved hedgehogs being one of them, but there are so many more affected by our waste.

Keep Britain Tidy know that across the country, voles, shrews and other small mammals are getting trapped in bottles and cans littered on our roadsides and dying. They want to develop a new national campaign to raise awareness of this issue, reduce littering from cars and prevent the deaths of these important creatures.
